Facebook and Twitter marketing will increase your Google Search Stats!

Why do I say so? This is because Google and Microsoft both have deals with Twitter, and maybe Facebook. Microsoft has a deal with Facebook to integrate Twitter and Facebook updates into Bing search results, while Google will be adding tweets to search results, and is already in talks with Facebook as well.

Google’s spokeperson had said that their search results and user experience will benefit greatly from including such tweets, and they are looking into a product that showcases how tweets can make search better. Google’s deal with Twitter and Bing will make it vital for marketers to be found in real-time searches and social networking sites. It is now very important for marketers to stay relevant in real time.

Google’s new labs project which will be ready in the next few weeks, blends and integrates social media with its own search results. That means, the bottom of search results will soon have social networking information from your friends, such as their Flickr photos or their status updates, which are extracted from social networks connected to visitors’ Google profile. Other improvements include searching for images using social networks, which will become more relevant in the social media world.

On the other hand, Microsoft’s Bing has a beta tool for visitors to play with for searching tweets with the search engine. They can search for what people are talking about on the web about breaking news topics, celebrities, sports, and everything else.

The new Twitter developments in Bing include a real-time index of the tweets that match visitors’ search queries in results, giving visitors the option to rank tweets by more recent or by “best match”, and providing the top links shared on Twitter around visitors’ specific search query by showcasing a few of the most relevant tweets. Bing automatically expands these tweet links to enable visitors to understand what people are tweeting about. Already, Bing is displaying some tweets for certain people results at the top of the regular web search results page.

Also Microsoft has a deal with Yahoo!, which will see Bing results taking over Yahoo’s results, although the latter may still be controlling the front-end search, while Bing will take over the back-end. This means that ranking for Bing will equal to ranking for Yahoo!.

What does this mean for search engine marketing? The integration of social media marketing with search engine marketing will make marketing in general more important, and in particular, how marketers use search engine marketing. So far, it has been content with links that has been driving search engine rankings. If status updates and tweets become directly integrated into search results, it will be not only about promotion of content, but also direct exposure right into the results. Getting found in real-time searches may not only mean getting found in Twitter and Facebook searches, but also getting found in Bing and Yahoo searches.

Now, do you still think that real-time search and social media are not worth your time? Think again.
